I was ten years old (to put a little humor in the story) and as I said before Rainey Masters and I found many things to occupy our time besides the wine, cider, etc. Rainey's dad (Ed) was quite the character and even though he had to do it QT (on the sly), he made his raison jack and hid it in the barn. However, Rainey knew his secret. Now, Raison Jack had visible raisons in the jug. One time, we got the bright idea that the raisons should have a mixture… We put several hands full of sheep droppings in the jug and to our surprise he didn't even notice it. Probably due to the appearance like raisons…
Across the road from Rainey's farm there was a big woods (Clyde Pierce's Woods) and a large pasture where he kept sheep and cattle. Every time we would go to the woods hunting squirrel or rabbits, there were two rams in the flock of sheep that would chase us up trees or over the fence. One day, we had an idea to teach those rams a lesson. Now a ram is not unlike a bull… He will try butting everything that moves in front of him. We had the perfect spot… It was a big elm stump about four feet off the ground. I had a red hunting coat that should do the trick. We circled around behind the flock and while I got on the stump, Rainey teased the rams to chase him (which was no problem). He came running toward the stump and at the right time, I began working the Red jacket down in front of the stump. Well, now, the old ram really liked that red color, so he switched from Rainey to the jacket. Just before he hit the jacket, I pulled it up. Man, he hit that stump so hard it bounced him backward about ten feet. He sit on his haunches in a dazed condition for a minute, then right back at the jacket again. We quit with just his pride injured…
